3 Delicious Ways to Cut Starch & Grains

It’s really frustrating to push yourself hard during workouts, but not see the results you want!  Your diet is probably (and usually) the culprit!  You’re good for a few days but then you begin craving certain foods, which for most people are starches and grains.

The good news is it’s possible to still eat the foods you love with a few trick substitutions that look almost like the real thing and taste great!

That sounds fantastic, right? So let’s dig right in…

TRICK #1: TRADE RICE FOR CAULIFLOWER RICE
Rice makes a great side to many meals. So easy and versatile, but heavy on the starch and calorie content, and although I’m not saying give up rice all together, it’s great to have a great go-to option, especially when you are in weight loss mode.

You must try it before you judge it! It is really good and filling.

How to:

Wash and trim Cauliflower. Chop into small pieces and then run those pieces through a food processor with the grating attachment, resulting in a rice-like consistency.

Place the cauliflower rice in a large skillet with a Tablespoon of coconut oil or olive oil and cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper and you are good to go. Serve just as you would traditional rice.

TRICK #2:

TRADE NOODLES FOR ZUCCHINI NOODLES
Ever notice that when you crave pasta, you are mainly craving the sauce? Well, for most anywaysJ Noodles alone are bland and make you feel like having a long nap afterwards.

You will be pleasantly surprised when you try Zucchini Noodles. They go great with your favourite meat sauce or pesto.

How to:

You have the option of using either a Vegetable Spiralizer or a simple vegetable peeler. I

If using a vegetable peeler, wash zucchini, run a vegetable peeler down its sides, creating long, wide noodles. Stop when you reach the inner, seedy part of the zucchini. They do not require cooking but you can certainly toss them in a pan for a few minutes to warm.
TRICK #3:

TRADE BREAD, BUNS, TORTILLAS FOR LETTUCE WRAPS

I am a big fan of using lettuce for sandwiches, tacos, burgers, etc. Plus they are a great option when you are eating out since most restaurants will have fresh lettuce available to substitute.

I trust this trick needs no explanation, just keep nice crisp lettuce leaves in your fridge.
