Roger Nahas – Owner & Coach

My journey in fitness and nutrition is a little different than most.  You see, I’m a former fat kid! The kid who was a total introvert!  I was always the guy who was too embarrassed to take his shirt off at the beach!   But I remember the day everything changed for me – I looked in the mirror and wasn’t happy with what I saw.  I made the decision to change my body and my life.  It was 1999 and I took a before pic and measurements and body fat and I entered the Body for Life Challenge.  Over the next 90 days, I completely changed my eating habits, and worked out regularly.   The before and after pic you see below is the result of my hard work.  I actually was awarded the Canadian Grand Champion for my age category

I was no longer the fat kid.  I looked forward to getting to a beach so I could take my shirt off and I became more outgoing and fun! After seeing the difference it made in my life I decided that I wanted to dedicate my life to helping people realize the amazing benefits of optimal health and fitness.

I started out as most trainers do in your typical gym.  After years of working in a gym setting, Daniela and I were getting disillusioned with how Big Box Gyms operated.   We wanted to train people functionally and to make their bodies strong in the movements they used in the real word.  We wanted to make working with a highly trained instructor more affordable, and we wanted to make fitness fun because let’s face it; if you are having a blast, it makes it that much easier to stick to it.  The result was the launching of Best Body Bootcamp in 2007.  We started out with one location and have grown it to what it is today!

I have to tell you that although I looked great in the after pic above, the food and exercise plans I followed to get that after pic, hurt me in the long run.  It made me look good from the outside but my body was breaking down on the inside.  The way I was working out and what I thought was healthy eating was in fact hurting me in the long run.  I was over training, taking longer to recover from my workouts, I tore my rotator cuff and had gut issues.   Nothing I could do was helping and then I was introduced to a C.H.E.K Holistic Lifestyle Coach who helped me. Turns out I was stressing my body beyond repair and then giving it food that wasn’t helping but was actually stressing my body even more.  He made me look at my body and the food I put into it in a totally different way.

That lead me to complete my certification as a C.H.E.K Holistic Lifestyle Coach and we pass that knowledge on and encourage holistic nutrition to our members.

In addition to running the day-to-day operations of Best Body Bootcamp, I also work with individual clients doing fitness training as well as holistic nutrition and lifestyle coaching.

When I’ve got a bit of free time, I spend as much of it as possible with my wife and son, I bike year round, play hockey, practice Tai Chi daily, read & take courses.

Daniela Nahas – Owner & Coach

It’s hard to believe that Roger and I started Best Body Bootcamp 9 years ago! How we have grown and evolved over the years!

My journey in fitness and health began about 15 years ago. Before that, like many of you I struggled with yo-yo dieting, and doing countless hours of cardio just to stay looking slim. Boy I wish I could talk some sense into my past self! But health is a journey and I am so grateful for all of my experiences, which have shaped what I have to offer our members today.

Over the years I have experienced first hand the life changing benefits of incorporating the right kind of exercise into my life. That motivated me to become a personal trainer 15 years ago, and it still continues to motivate me today. I want everyone to be able to to experience what exercise can do for their well being, self confidence and physique.

I used to struggle with my nutrition in a big way, so I completely empathise with you, if this is the hardest part for you when it comes to seeing long term change. I once struggled with eating disorders, followed by any years of a very negative relationship to food, even during my initial years as a personal trainer.

It occurred to me one day that I could not help my clients make changes and make better choices, without first focusing on myself. It was through completing my Holistic Lifestyle Coach Certification that I was able to change my relationship to food and be able to genuinely help clients get closer to their goals.

My increasing passion for nutrition and health led me to become certified as a Health Coach. As a health coach, I am able to help my clients delve deeper into your relationship with food and their health. What lies beneath our patterns and habits is fascinating and when you can tap into that it can have an incredibly powerful impact on our lives, and bring about real change!

These days I leave most of the bootcamp training to our awesome trainers, but I continue to share my passion for nutrition and fitness in our private member facebook group and work on our ever evolving member offerings.

My other passion? I am the luckiest mom to a 6-year-old boy. He keeps me on my toes and I must admit has helped me grow in ways I never thought possible. Together with hubby Roger Nahas, we like to spend plenty of time outdoors, along with the latest family hobby – board games.

When I get me time, I like to do yoga, read, cook, and spend time in nature.

David Kim MacKinnon – Beaches Coach

My fitness journey began 10 years ago. During my high school years, I was very underweight. I wanted to feel more confident in my skin and develop more muscle. I decided to take up boxing, and since then my life has never been the same. I fell in love with fitness and have never looked back.

Health & fitness is a lifestyle. Your level of fitness does not matter if you have a weak mind. To unlock your true potential, you must be in sync with your body, mind, and soul. Don’t make excuses, take action.

As your coach, I take great honor in assisting you in your fitness journey! It’s not gonna be easy, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication. There are going to be days where your body feels like absolute crap. Keep pushing. There are days where you feel like having cheat meals. Stay dedicated. Skylar Helm – Office Manager & Coach

My name is Skylar and I’ll be working to set you up with the bootcamp or semi private training that works for you  as well as coaching you through your results!

My passion is to help people make their fitness and health goals become a reality, and surpass their own expectations of themselves. Nothing makes me happier then showing others they have it in them to achieve their goals in the gym.

I started dancing when I was 4 and continued to make Jazz, tap, hip hop and lyrical a part of my life ever since. If there’s any tap dancers out there, let’s dance! When I was in high school, sprinting became a huge priority. My competitive side came out, so I started to go to the gym in hopes to improve my 100m and 200m time. When track season was over, I continued to make going to the gym a habit and I’ve never looked back!

I graduated from George Brown College in the Fitness and Health Promotion program and continued to study fitness through CSEP (Canadian Science of Exercise Physiology), Poliquin, and DTS Fitness Education. I love teaching and helping my clients reach their targets through bootcamp classes. There’s always a great energy, they work hard and they accomplish goals!

No matter how big or small you believe your goal is, always remember to have a positive outlook on the path to get there.

Dylan Thomas – North York Coach

 Hi, my name is Dylan Thomas. I’m here to help you reach your fitness goals and also to create a healthy lifestyle by integrating the body, mind, and soul.

I see fitness not only as a way to stay in great shape but also to build a base to improve the way we live, find solutions to various health problems and also to give us the ability to follow other dreams such as hiking, playing a sport, or even just getting through day to day events.

My role as a coach is to help you build a balanced lifestyle by creating an environment that is not only motivating but also empowers you to continually challenge yourself throughout your journey, in a fun and rewarding way. Creating the best version of yourself.

Thanks to my father, my journey started at a very early age. Starting fitness at the age of 12, I have always been interested in how the body functions and why we need to do what we have to do in order to maintain a good, well balanced healthy body.

Haley Gordon-Martin – Downtown Coach   

Hi, my name is Haley and I am a coach at Best Body Bootcamp!

Starting at the young age of 12 I have had a passion for fitness and nutrition. Through the years I have had my own ups and downs with fitness and nutrition, but each struggle and success have made me into the person I am today. Someone who has been through the weight loss/gain battle. Someone who has struggled with body image and self-confidence. And someone who has tried all the diets, the fads, and exercise styles. I have been a runner, I have been a non-competitive bodybuilder and I have been a yogi.

My journey has brought me to a place where I feel confident in my ability to help others wade through the fitness and nutrition myths and confusing information to help them get to their best self. This is my true passion helping others feel their best inside and out.

To me fitness is not about what your resting heart rate is or how much you can squat, it’s about respecting your body. Respecting your body enough to not just live but thrive, to truly be alive! When you commit to an exercise program and healthy eating plan you are making a commitment to improving your life. When you invest in your health all other aspects of your life will improve, your relationships, your work, your family and your outlook on life. The desire to improve your body is what got you here, but the improvements in all other aspects of your life are what will keep you here, long after you’ve reach your physical goals.

Over the past year, I have attended classes at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition to become a registered Holistic Nutritionist. It has been a life-changing year for me and has prepared me to help others truly understand their nutritional needs. I also hold certifications in nutrition coaching, stretching, personal training and group fitness.

Brad Higgins- Queen West Coach

As your coach, I look forward to helping you achieve your goals by utilizing my experience and knowledge of movement, nutrition, and a positive mindset.

Since I can remember I have been moving on a daily basis, which is exactly where my passion for fitness coaching comes from. My passion for health and fitness has been the biggest driving force behind the success in my life to date. Having the ability to move my body better, smarter and more effective with each passing day keeps me focused on both my short and long term goals. Fitness and health is not just something I do but is a part of who I am, and therefore it is something that I can’t live without.

I believe that through exercise I can live and learn at my body’s full potential. This can be the case for everyone else out there. By exercising on a regular basis, I promise you that your mind, body, and life will improve. Exercise can help you achieve your maximum potential by creating natural movement in your life, which can help you excel in many other endeavors.

My background in training is associated with bodyweight movements. This is because it always challenges both my mind and body. By strengthening both my mind and body each day I continue to stay focused on my goals. Am always learning new and improved ways each day and am always up for a challenge.

In my free time, I like to get outdoors and socialize, participate in a variety of sports and read.

Last bit of advice that has really stuck with me throughout my 7+ years as a fitness coach– We only have 1 thing in our life for the rest of our life – OUR BODY – Therefore we should be able to move and understand our body better as we grow older. Remember that there is never a better day to start than right now!!
