Staying hydrated throughout the day is a tough one. Some of us are busy and completely forget, and some of us just flat out don’t like the taste of water!
Making sure you drink enough water is a major component in overall health, sleep, exercise performance, energy levels and so many other things. But, how do we make sure we get enough water each day? That is the magical question.
Tip #1: Have a big glass of water first thing in the morning.
The first thing we do in the morning (usually) is get up, and walk to the washroom. I like to keep a big glass by the sink to remind me each morning to drink that cup of water!
Tip #2: Get a reusable, travel water bottle
Sometimes it just feels better to drink out of your favourite mug, same for travel bottles! Get a water bottle that is easy for you to carry with you – at least 16oz. This will make it easier to remind you that you should be hydrating.
Tip #3: Set an alarm
Sounds silly, but it can be extremely helpful. Sometimes the issue is that we just don’t remember we should be drinking water! Having an alarm makes reminding yourself to drink water a heck of a lot easier; I recommend every few hours. If you don’t want to set an alarm there are so many apps that give you reminders for drinking water, and even reward you for doing so – my favourite is Hydro Coach.
Tip #4: Flavour your water
If you’re like some people who really can’t stand the taste of water, find a flavour combo that works best for you. For me – it’s adding citrus slices like lemon or lime, herbs like mint, cucumber, the list goes on! A hot tip for the summer is adding frozen fruit into your water – this acts as ice cubes, flavour, and a snack as it thaws.
So there you have it! Get hydrating!
